Sincona Auction 103, lot 1416

This specimen was lot 1416 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 35,000 CHF (about US$53,340 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Graubünden, Chur, Bistum Johann V. Flugi von Aspermont, 1601-1627. 7 Dukaten o. J., Chur. Büste mit Doppelkopf (infolge Doppelschlags) des Bischofs zwischen SL PEC. Rv. Gekrönter und nimbierter Doppeladler im Schriftkreis. Glatter Rand. Äusserst selten. Vorzüglich. (Switzerland, bishopric of Chur, Johann V Flugi von Aspermont, 1601-27, undated seven ducats, Chur mint. Obverse: bust of the bishop (head double struck) between "SL PEC"; reverse: crowned and nimbate double headed eagle in circle. Plain edge, Extremely rare, Extremely Fine.)"

The bishop made several issues of this denomination. This one has the reverse legend "RODOL· II · D · G · ROM · IMP · SEMP · AVGVSTVS". The very similar KM 56 has the reverse legend "*MATHIAS*D*G*ROM * IM*SEM*AV*G*H*B*RE*" while KM 55 has the date on the reverse.

Specification: 24.5 g, 0.986 fine gold; 40-43 mm diameter, this specimen 23.96 g.
