JE164-2232r.jpg

This specimen was lot 2232 in Jean Elsen sale 164 (Brussels, March 2026), where it sold for €3,800 (about US$5,290 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA, People's Republic (1949-), AV 500 yuan, 2018. Panda. Fineness 0,999. In original sealed holder. Proof." The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more. The one ounce panda was raised from 100 yuan to 500 yuan in 2000 and reduced in weight from 31.1 g to 30 g in 2016. The SCWC has not updated its listings of pandas since 2012.

Recorded mintage: 700,000.

Specification: 30 g, 0.999 fine gold, 32 mm diameter, this specimen 30,00 g.

Catalog reference: KM 2443.
