This specimen was lot 22387 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. 100 Yuan, 2005. Panda Series. PCGS PROOF-69 DEEP CAMEO. Struck in palladium. From a mintage of only 8,000 pieces." The Chinese government issued twelve different panda coins in 2005, as follows:

  • KM A1580: 10,000 yuan, 1 kilogram gold;
  • KM 1581: 2,000 yuan, 5 oz gold;
  • KM 1582: 500 yuan, 1 oz gold;
  • KM 1583: 200 yuan, ½ oz gold;
  • KM 1584: 100 yuan, ¼ oz gold;
  • KM 1585: 50 yuan, 1/10 oz gold;
  • KM 1586: 20 yuan, 1/20 oz gold;
  • KM 1587: 300 yuan, 1 kilogram silver;
  • KM 1588: 50 yuan, 5 oz silver;
  • KM 1589: 10 yuan, 1 oz silver;
  • KM 1590: 100 yuan, ½ oz palladium (shown here);
  • KM 1591: 100 yuan, 1/10 oz platinum.

The platinum and palladium issues were abandoned after this year.

Recorded mintage: 8,000.

Specification: 15.55 g, 0.999 fine palladium, 0.50 troy oz APW, 30 mm diameter.
