China (1927) dollar K-609
This specimen was lot 5138 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €22,000 (about US$30,266 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"CHINA, Republik. Dollar Jahr 16 (1927), Nanking. Sun Yat-Sen-Mausoleum. Probeprägung. Entworfen von Richard Placht, Wien. In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung AU Details - Cleaned (8584745-006). Von großer Seltenheit. Nur 480 Exemplare geprägt. Vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 110, Osnabrück 2006, Nr. 3545. (republic of China, dollar of the year 16, Nanking mint, for the Sun Yat-Sen mausoleum, pattern strike using Austrian dies. Graded NGC AU Details, Cleaned. Extremely rare, only 480 pieces struck, extremely fine.)"
This pattern is not listed in the SCWC but appears in Kann. It was never adopted. The most familiar issue of 1927 is the "Memento" dollar.
