Chile 1899 5 centavos

This silver five centavos piece was minted in Santiago, Chile, in 1899-1907. It was the second five centavos to feature the condor design by French engraver Oscar Roty. The half decimo was 1.25 g, 0.900 fine 1851-59 (KM 121), then 1.15 g, 0.900 fine 1860-80, then 1.25 g, 0.500 fine 1879-94, then 1 g, 0.835 fine in 1895. The decline did not stop with this type; in 1908 it was reduced to 1 g, 0.400 fine and finally to copper-nickel in 1920. All dates are common.

Recorded mintage: 1,764,000.
