Chile 1899 10 centavos

This silver ten centavos piece was minted in Santiago, Chile, in 1899-1907. It was the second ten centavos to feature the condor design by French engraver Oscar Roty. The decimo was 2.5 g, 0.900 fine 1851-59 (see KM 124), then 2.3 g, 0.900 fine 1860-80, then 2.5 g, 0.500 fine 1879-94, then 2 g, 0.835 fine in 1895. The decline did not stop with this type; in 1908 it was reduced to 2 g, 0.400 fine, then 1.5 g, .450 fine in 1915 and finally to copper-nickel in 1920. Coins dated 1900 and 1901 are rare; the other dates are common.
