Chile 1890-So peso
This specimen was lot 34382 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. Peso, 1890/80-So. Santiago Mint. PCGS MS-62. Overdate variety. The penultimate year of issue for the type, this enchanting, nearly-choice crown offers a gunmetal gray tone and a majestic array of underlying brilliance. Undoubtedly a coin that should generate great enthusiasm on account of its exceptional SCARCITY in such an elevated, elegant state of preservation." This is a peso minted in Santiago, Chile, in 1889. It is a scarce date of a common type struck 1868-91 but nice examples are always worth a premium. There is no regular date, all are 1890/80 or 1890/89.
