This specimen was lot 32757 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $352.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic Peso 1880-So MS64 NGC, Santiago mint. Choice Mint State with attractive old patina and very clean fields, as expected for the assigned grade. Quite scarce in this numerical designation." This is a peso minted in Santiago, Chile, in 1880. It is a common date of a common type struck 1868-91 but nice examples are always worth a premium. Overdates abound for this series but the SCWC records only an 1880/70/60 for this date.
