Chile 1873-So peso

from the Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale, lot 22365

This is a peso minted in Santiago, Chile, in 1873. It is a common date of a common type struck 1868-91 but nice examples are always worth a premium. This specimen was lot 22365 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $630. The catalog description^[1] noted, "CHILE. Peso, 1873-So. NGC MS-63. Sharply struck and frosty. An excellent example of this date. From the Alex Siegel Collection."

Recorded mintage: 323,000 including 1873/2.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, .723 troy oz ASW, reeded edge, 37 mm diameter.
