This specimen was lot 33650 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "Chile: Republic gold Escudo 1840 So-IJ AU55 NGC, Santiago mint. Excellent strong strike and subtle rose-gold toning over vibrant luster." This "standing liberty" design, struck 1839-45, succeeded the "hand on book" type (KM 99, struck 1838 only). The SCWC records the weight of this coin as 3.3 g; earlier colonial one escudos were nominally 3.38 g. None of the recorded mintages are large.
