This specimen was lot 21061 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 8 Escudos, 1821-So FD. Santiago Mint. PCGS AU-53. An ever-popular type featuring a radiant personification of the sun between two smoking volcanoes, this wholesome example remains problem-free and exceedingly attractive, with a hint of deeper golden toning nearer the peripheries and only minor striking weakness. From the David Sterling Collection." This type was struck 1818-34 in moderate quantities but increased demand has made this coin expensive.
