This specimen was lot 646 in Aureo y Calicó sale 243 (Barcelona, April 2012), where it sold for 3,700 € (about US$5,590 including buyer's fees). The catalog[1] noted,
"Carlos III (1759-1788). 1763. Santiago. J. 8 escudos. Busto de Fernando VI. Golpecitos. Parte de brillo original. Rara. (MBC/MBC+). (Eight escudos of 1763, Santiago mint. Bust of Ferdinand VI. Edge bumps, rare, some luster, very fine plus.)"
This type was struck at Santiago 1760-63 and is rare.
