This specimen was lot 23400 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $2,937.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VI gold 8 Escudos 1759-J, XF40 NGC, lightly toned with nice features and no adjustment marks. Variety with the King's name spelled in full as FERDINANDUS." This type was issued 1758-59 only and is rare. With the exception of a hoard of 1750-51 four and eight escudos found some years ago, Chilean gold coinage is rare prior to the 1770's.
