Chekiang (or Zhejiang) is a densely populated, coastal province immediately south of Shanghai. The first Chekiang mint was located in the capital Hangchow. It opened in 1896 but closed by the turn of the century. Other mints established in the early 1900’s initially struck copper cash coins.

The specimen shown was lot 60027 in Ponterio sale 162 (Hong Kong, August 2011), where it sold for $11,352. The catalog description[1] noted, "Chekiang. 20 Cash, ND (ca. 1903-04). NGC MS-63 BN. Ex: The Frank Robinson Collection."
