This specimen was lot 23336 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $180. The catalog description[1] noted, "CEYLON. 25 Cents, 1914. Calcutta Mint. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. Pop: 1; one graded finer by PCGS. A pleasing, sharply struck coin with medium gray toning." This type was struck 1911-14 and 1917 and is not rare. The 25 cents was the same weight as the Indian quarter rupee but lower in fineness. It was last struck in silver in 1926. Ceylon, famous for tea, attained its independence in 1948 after the British left India and is now known as Sri Lanka.
