Steve Album Auction 53, lot 3479

This specimen was lot 3479 in Steve Album Auction 53 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $115. The catalog description[1] noted, "CAYMAN ISLANDS: Elizabeth II, 1952-2022, AR 50 dollars, 1975, Sovereign Queens of England, in original booklet with COA and box, mintage of only 7,800 pieces in proof, scarce, Proof." This NCLT was struck for the Cayman Islands by the Ottawa mint in 1975-77. It was accompanied by a gold hundred dollars (KM 13). The island group south of Cuba was long ruled from Jamaica but came under separate administration after Jamaica obtained her independence in 1962. It is now famous as a tax haven and banking center much patronized by drug lords, ousted dictators and others seeking to avoid publicity.

Recorded mintage: 33,000 plus 7,800 proofs.
