Catalonia (1416-58) real
This specimen was lot 934 in Jean Elsen sale 144 (Brussels, March 2020), where it sold for €200 (about US$264 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ESPAGNE, CATALOGNE ET ARAGON, Alphonse IV d'Aragon (1416-1458), AR croat, Perpignan. Au titre de comte de Roussillon. D/ B. cour. à g. R/ COMS- BARK-NONA- ROCIL Croix cantonnée de deux annelets et de deux groupes de trois globules. Belle patine. Très Beau. (Spain, Catalonia and Aragon, Alfonso IV of Aragon, 1416-58, silver croat, Perpignan mint, in the name of the count of Roussillon. Very Fine.)"
The second specimen was lot 250 in Áureo y Calicó sale 345 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for 130€ (about US$172 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"Alfons IV (1416-1458). Perpinyà. Croat. Ex Áureo 19/12/1995, nº 263. Escasa. MBC."
This type was struck at Barcelona (Cayón-1896, -1897) and Perpiñan (Cayón-1898) along with a half croat and 1/3 croat. Alfonso was also king of Aragon, Valencia and Mallorca.
