This specimen was lot 1335 in Aureo y Calicó sale 423 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 30 € (about US$39 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Sancho IV (1284-1295). Cuenca. Cornado. Rich billon. Scarce in this condition. EBC [extremely fine]." Sancho IV, son and heir of Alfonso IX the Wise, ruled Castile and Leon until his death in 1295, aged 36 years. This coin was struck at Burgos, Coruña, Leon, Murcia, Toledo and Seville after 1286 and was worth nine dineros. Sancho also struck a cornado seisen with a cross on the reverse instead of a tower; this was worth only six dineros.
