This type, the first of its denomination issued in Canada, was issued to commemorate the centennial of confederation. Subsequent issues of this denomination was silver. It was available only in the proof sets sold that year. This specimen was lot 318 in Ponterio sale 158 (New York, January 2011), where it sold for $718.75. The catalog description^[1] noted, "CANADA. 20 Dollars, 1967. PROOF."

Recorded mintage: 337,688 proofs (no uncirculated strikes).

Specification: 18.27 g, 0.900 fine gold, .528 troy oz AGW, reeded edge.
