Canada 1967 10 cents
This specimen was lot 44216 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 10 Cents, 1967. Ottawa Mint. PCGS PROOF-67 Deep Cameo. A sharply contrasted Proof with hard mirrored fields and frosted cameo devices." This type was struck 1967 to commemorate the centennial of confederation and is among the last silver dimes issued for circulation. Mid-year the silver purity was lowered from 0.800 to 0.500 fine. The two issues are very difficult to distinguish, which has maddened silver hoarders since. Silver was removed entirely from the coinage in 1968, following the USA by four years.
Recorded mintage: 62,998,215 including the 0.500 fine issue.
Specification: 2.33 g, 0.800 fine silver, 18.03 mm diameter.
