Canada 1965 25 cents
This specimen was lot 32682 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $258.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Elizabeth II Proof 25 Cents 1965 PR67 Cameo PCGS. A stunning coin with an alluring appearance. From The Eric Beckman Collection of Canadian Coins." The first bust of the new queen was used for the quarter 1953-64; this older bust was used 1965-66. In 1967, a new reverse was used in celebration of the centennial of confederation; when this design was revived in 1968, it was in 0.500 fine silver (KM 62a). Rising silver prices forced mint authorities to convert the quarter to nickel late in 1968 and it was struck in that form 1968-78 (KM 62b). This date, which is otherwise common, is not supposed to exist in proof.
Recorded mintage: 44,708,869.
Specification: 5.83 g, 0.800 fine silver, 23.8 mm diameter.
