This specimen was lot 23486 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $881.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "George VI 50 Cents 1949 Hoof Over 9, MS63 ICCS, a nice fully lustrous example of this scarce variety. From The Nikita Collection." This type was struck 1948-52. This varied from the prior type by deleted "ET IND IMP" from the obverse legend. This "hoof in 6" variety carries a substantial premium. Silver was removed from the fifty cent piece in 1968.

Recorded mintage: 858,991.

Specification: 11.66 g, 0.800 fine silver, .300 troy oz ASW, reeded edge, 29.72 mm diameter, designed by G. E. Kruger-Gray.
