Stack's Bowers 2020 ANA sale, lot 21101
SB820-21101r.jpg

This specimen was lot 21101 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Las Vegas, August 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Important World War II Era Specimen 25 Cents. CANADA. 25 Cents, 1944. Ottawa Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-65 Gold Shield. Gleaming throughout, this Gem displays minimal evidence of past handling with slightly milky translucent tone that tops the surfaces. A VERY RARE issue, with official mint records reflecting a paltry issuance of 3 sets (1-50 cent denominations) with singles undoubtedly sold by the mint during the year. Today, less than ten examples are known of this denomination, and only a single coin has been graded finer by PCGS. Ex: Cornerstone Collection. Ex: Alston Collection." This type was struck for George VI 1937-47 and this is a common date. In 1948, "ET IND IMP" was dropped from the obverse legend (KM 44) and the modified type was issued 1948-52. Silver was removed from the quarter in 1968. This is a common date and this example is valuable only because it is in a SPECIMEN holder.

Recorded mintage: 7,216,237.

Specification: 5.83 g, 0.800 fine silver, .150 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM-35.
