Canada 1943 50 cents
This specimen was part of lot 22333 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), which sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. Pair of 50 Cents, 1941-43.Includes an example of the 1941 narrow date and 1943 wide date varieties. Both example exhibit lovely satiny surfaces with a nice cartwheel effect and hints of light tone." The death of George V provided the occasion for the complete redesign of Canadian coinage with more distinctly Canadian motifs. This type was struck 1937-47 with the wartime issues of 1940-45 being the most common. Silver was removed from the fifty cent piece in 1968.
