Steve Album sale 51, lot 3606

This specimen was lot 3606 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $108. The catalog description[1] noted, "CAMBODIA: Norodom Sihanouk, 2nd reign, 1993-2004, AR 3000 riels, 2004, Treasure of Tutankamun, multicolored applique, mintage of only 9,100 pieces, PCGS graded Proof 70 DCAM, R3 (Daniel), ex Howard A. Daniel III Collection." Wikipedia comments,

"Norodom Sihanouk (1922-2012) was a member of the Cambodian royal house who led the country as King and Prime Minister. During his lifetime, Cambodia was under various regimes, from French colonial rule (until 1953), a Japanese puppet state (1945), an independent kingdom (1953–1970), a military republic (1970–1975), the Khmer Rouge regime (1975–1979), a Vietnamese-backed communist regime (1979–1989), a transitional communist regime (1989–1993) to eventually another kingdom (since 1993)."

Actual power was held by strongman Hun Sen, prime minister 1985-93 and 1998-2023. As of May 2025, US$1 = 4,006 riels.
