Steve Album sale 51, lot 2852

This specimen was lot 2852 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "BULGARIA: Ferdinand I, as tsar, 1908-1918, 5 stotinki, 1912, brilliant luster, a choice mint-state example with great eye appeal, PCGS graded MS65." This type was struck in 1906 and 1912 at Kremnitz (now in Slovakia) and in 1913 at Vienna. All three dates are common. Bulgaria, greedy for territory, entered both World Wars on Germany's side and ended up as loser twice.

Recorded mintage: 14,000,000.

Specification: 3 g, copper-nickel, 17 mm diameter, plain edge.
