Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1805-MC 5 thaler Fr-726
This specimen was lot 6070 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$2,843 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand, 1780-1806. 5 Taler 1805, MC. GOLD. Prachtexemplar. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. ([[German States, Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel|duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Charles William Ferdinand, 1780-1806, five thaler of 1805. Outstanding example, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
The gold five thaler was introduced in Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel in 1742 and struck until 1834. This type is mentioned for 1785-86, 1790 and 1795-1806 and all dates are scarce.
