This specimen was lot 2926 in Steve Album Auction 53 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRUNSWICK-WOLFENBÜTTEL: Karl I, 1735-1780, AR 2 mariengroschen, 1757, mintmaster initials IBH, attractively toned obverse, a lovely lustrous mint state example, PCGS graded MS63, ex Joe Sedillot Collection. Finest graded 'top pop' by PCGS!" This denomination was one twelfth of a gulden or 1/18 of a thaler. This type was struck 1735-57, 1762, 1765, 1770 and 1780. It was one of three designs for this denomination: KM 859 (leaping stallion reverse, shown here), KM 860 (wild man reverse) and KM 927 (monogram obverse). Initials IBH stood for Johann Benjamin Hecht, mintmaster at Zellerfeld 1739-1763.
