This specimen was lot 621 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,820. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. Taler, 1692-RB. Rudolf August & Anton Ulrich, Joint Rulers (1685-1704). NGC MS-64. A good strike with just a touch of flatness to the high points of the wildman but with excellent detail to the reverse arms. Wonderfully toned with multi-hued highlights creating a rainbow effect above the wildman. From the Rockaway Collection." This type of 1691-99 is common but the "wild man" design is always popular.
