Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1624-HS 3 thaler Dav-LS51A
This specimen was lot 75026 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 3 Talers, 1624-HS. Zellerfeld or Goslar Mint. Friedrich Ulrich. NGC AU Details--Obverse Graffiti, Cleaned. Variety without value stamp. Despite the noted cleaning and graffiti, this impressive larger-format silver denomination stands as a rather SCARCE type, and would no doubt serve as a splendid representative of the emission." The duke also issued four, five, six and ten thalers in 1624, probably to raise money for the Thirty Years War.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
