Künker sale 386, lot 5009

This specimen was lot 5009 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,618 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Heinrich der Jüngere, 1514-1568. Taler 1547, Riechenberg. Von großer Seltenheit. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön. Die Umschrift in doppeltem Schriftkreis auf der Rückseite lautet: IN GOTS - GEWA H - A I M S - G STALT //DER HA - TS GEFV - DAS MI - R GENV (In Gottes Gewalt habe ich meine Sache gestellt; er hat's gefügt, das mir genügt). (duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Henry the Younger, 1514-68, thaler of 1547, Riechenberg mint. Extremely rare, handsome patina, very fine. The double row inscription on the reverse reads, "I have put my cause in God's power; he arranged it, which is enough for me".)"

This type was struck 1547 only. It is very rare. German legends are very unusual on coinage of the sixteenth century where Latin predominated.
