This specimen was lot 73638 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Wolfenbuttel. 1/24 Taler, "73" (1573). Goslar Mint. Julius. PCGS AU-55. An early example of the Wild Man motif, this coin exhibits good detail from a solid strike on a well-prepared flan, thus the design and legends have an alluring clarity. Steel gray surfaces are augmented by champagne across the entirety of the coin. Attractive. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1572-77 and is not expensive in worn condition. All bear two digit dates.
