Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle 1705 thaler Dav-2056
This specimen was lot 3813 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €600 (about US$785 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG. Georg Wilhelm, 1665-1705. Reichstaler 1705, Celle, auf seinen Tod. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 110, Osnabrück 2006, Nr. 4457. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg, George William, 1665-1705, thaler of 1705, Celle mint, on his death. Handsome patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"
This rare issue is the last thaler from this branch of the Brunswick dukes, which fell extinct in 1705 on the death of Georg Wilhelm. The property passed to Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg, which later became Hannover. Half, quarter and eighth thalers were issued on this occasion.
