Sincona sale 22, lot 1266

This specimen was lot 1266 in Sincona sale 22 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$251 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Celle, Herzogtum, Friedrich, 1636-1648 Taler 1641. Clausthal. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle, Frederick (1636-48), thaler of 1641, Claustahl mint, very fine to extremely fine.)"

The duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle fell extinct in 1705 and passed to Hannover. The Duchy of Brunswick was divided and subdivided in the seventeenth century but was eventually reassembled as the Kingdom of Hannover before being absorbed into Prussia in 1866. This type of 1637-43 is common.
