Künker sale 400, lot 20

This specimen was lot 20 in Künker sale 400 (Berlin, February 2024), where it sold for €8,000 (about US$10,379 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, Friedrich, 1636-1648. Löser zu 3 Reichstalern 1639, Clausthal. Ohne Wertpunze; Münzmeister Henning Schreiber. Geharnischtes Brustbild v. v. mit großer Halskrause in verzierter Kartusche, darüber geflügeltes Engelköpfchen//Fünffach behelmtes, 12feldiges Wappen, oben die geteilte Jahreszahl 16 - 39, unten Kartusche mit Münzmeistersignatur. RR Hübsche Patina, sehr schön. Erworben im November 1991 von der Münzenhandlung Fritz Rudolf Künker, Osnabrück. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle, Frederick, 1636-48, triple thaler of 1639, Clausthal mint, without value punched in. Obverse: armored bust facing in a cartouche with a large ruffed collar, winged angel's head above; reverse: five helmeted, manifold arms dvide the date, initials below. Very rare, handsome patina, very fine.)"

In 1639, the duke also issued a five thaler (Dav-LS129), a quadruple thaler (Dav-LS130) and a thaler (Dav-6494). This type comes with or without the value punched in.
