This specimen was lot 55609 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Calenberg. 1/4 Taler (6 Groschen), "70" (1570). Muenden Mint. Erich II "the Younger". PCGS Genuine--Damage, VF Details. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1570-72 and is scarce, verging on rare. This is the first coin from this state that we have posted on this site that wasn't a thaler. This domain reverted to Wolfenbuttel on Erich's death, to be erected again in the seventeenth century.
