British North Borneo 1903-H 2-1/2 cents

British North Borneo is today known as Sabah and is a state of Malaysia. In the nineteenth century, half cents and cents were issued for the colony from the Heaton Mint. Two and a half cent pieces were issued in 1903 and 1920 only and are rather scarce. This specimen was part of lot 22163 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), which sold for $488.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "British Commonwealth Six Coin Grouping, ... 2 1/2 Cents 1903...The 2 1/2 Cents is VF, the rest are AU or UNC."
