Bremen and Verden (16)49 1/16 thaler
This specimen was lot 11295 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €85 (about US$89). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 1/16 Taler, 1649. Bremen & Verden Mint. Kristina. NGC Fine Details--Bent. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." The duchy of Bremen and Verden is the name given to the archbishopric of Bremen after it was secularized by the terms of the Treaty of Westphalia and handed over to the king of Sweden. The Swedish ruled the province until 1719, when it was sold to Hannover. The Hanseatic city of Bremen was not part of the deal. This obscure type was struck 1649-50.
