Shown is a silver two thousand réis of the United States of Brazil. It commemorated the centennial of independence from Portugal and was issued with an aluminum bronze five hundred réis (KM 521) and thousand réis (KM 522). The type comes in 0.900 fine silver (KM 523) and 0.500 fine silver (KM 523a) but are very difficult to tell apart.
Recorded mintage: 1,560,000.
Specification: 7.9 g, silver, 26 mm diameter.
