This specimen was lot 25224 in Heritage sale 61382 (Dallas, March 2024), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "Brazil: Republic 500 Reis 1911 XF45 NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint. Second key-date in series." Shown is a 500 réis of the United States of Brazil, of a type struck 1906-08, 1911-12. It was accompanied by similar 1000 réis and 2000 réis. The denomination was abolished in 1942 with the reform of the coinage in that year. This example realized five times the catalog value.
