This specimen was lot 72340 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRAZIL. 2000 Reis, 1911. Rio de Janeiro Mint. PCGS MS-65+. Unusually choice for tis type. Enticing ash gray toning with a very strong strike. Republican issue." Shown is a 2000 réis of the United States of Brazil, of a type struck 1906-12. The head of Liberty on this coin also appeared on silver 500 and 1000 réis of the same period. The denomination was abolished in 1942 with the reform of the coinage in that year.
