This specimen was lot 24060 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 10000 Reis 1909, MS61 NGC, a nice lustrous coin with light handling in the fields. Very rare date with a mintage of 1,069, and especially elusive when certified as mint state." This type was struck in small quantities 1889-1922 along with a larger twenty milréis. It is normally seen lightly circulated with bagmarks from storage in bank vaults.
