This specimen was lot 20196 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $1,997.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 10000 Reis 1908, MS61 NGC, fully lustrous with light handling, scarce grade for this low mintage date, 689 struck." This type was struck in small quantities 1889-1922 along with a larger twenty milréis. It is normally seen lightly circulated with bagmarks from storage in bank vaults.
