Brazil 1871 100 reis rev DSLR.jpg

Shown is a copper-nickel hundred réis of the Empire of Brazil. It is much scarcer in nice condition than the SCWC indicates, even tho the type was struck 1871-85. This type supersedes the scarce silver 100 réis struck 1834-48. The 100 réis gradually shrank during the Republic (KM 492, KM 503, KM 518, KM 527, KM 536 and KM 544) until its abolition in 1942 with the reform of the coinage in that year.

Recorded mintage: 4,000,000.

Specification: 9.8 g, copper-nickel 27 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 477.
