This specimen was lot 20523 in Heritage sale 3008 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $1,495. The catalog description[1] noted, "Brazil. Pedro II 100 Reis 1872, Fine, full date and nice overall details. With a reported mintage of 100 pieces the 1872 100 Reis is a classic and charismatic Brazilian rarity missing in most collections. Nicer than the piece we sold in September 2008 which realized $3737.50." The type was struck 1871-85 and this is the key date. The 1871 is the most common of the type.
