This specimen was lot 33392 in Heritage sale 3082 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $4,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "Brazil: Pedro II 800 Reis 1838 MS62 PCGS, Rio de Janeiro mint." This silver 800 réis was minted 1835-46 in Rio de Janeiro. The series came accompanied by 100 réis, 200 réis, 400 réis and 1200 réis in silver. The 800 réis had the same specification as the old 640 réis last minted in 1833 and is much the rarest denomination.
