This specimen was lot 321 in Ponterio sale 182 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $2,820. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRAZIL. 1,200 Reis, 1835. NGC MS-64. Finest certified, the next being a 61. Even toning with underlying luster." This type was struck in small numbers 1834-48 in Rio de Janeiro, with 1834, 1835 and 1837 being the reasonably available dates. The series came accompanied by 100 réis, 200 réis, 800 réis and 400 réis in silver.

Recorded mintage: 10,000.

Specification: 26.89 g, 0.917 fine silver, .792 troy oz ASW.
