This type was struck in small numbers 1835-48 in Rio de Janeiro, with 1834, 1835 and 1837 being the reasonably available dates. This specimen was lot 26630 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $235. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pedro II 400 Reis 1835, AU Details - Cleaned. Nearly fully detailed with microgranularity in the surfaces as a result of past cleaning." The series came accompanied by 100 réis, 200 réis, 800 réis and 1200 réis in silver.
Recorded mintage: 6,197 for 1834-35.
Specification: 8.96 g, 0.917 fine silver, .264 troy oz ASW.
