This specimen was lot 20404 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $3,737.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pedro II gold 6400 Reis 1833R, MS61 NGC, full mint brilliance with remarkably sharp design details, very appealing and a premium coin for this designation. First bust with Pedro's mouth slightly open." This type, the first gold coin featuring the young Pedro II, was struck at Rio 1832-33 and at Bahia 1832 only. This is the last coin struck to the standard of the old Portuguese peça.

Recorded mintage: 11,000.

Specification: 14.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, .422 troy oz AGW.
