This specimen was lot 23265 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $1,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "João VI 640 Reis 1821B, MS62 NGC, very rare in mint state, possibly the finest extant. From The Santana Collection of 640 Reis." This type was struck 1818-22 at Rio (KM 325.2, common), 1820 at Bahia (KM 325.3, shown here) and 1818 at Minas Gerais (KM 325.1, very rare).

Specification: 19.32 g, 0.917 fine silver.
